BEAR CREEK CAMP Keeping the Earth Get Connected In today’s society we have countless opportunities to connect with others. Email and cell phones make it easier than ever to maintain contact. Technology seems to give us limitless ways to keep in touch with our friends and family. But do you ever wonder who your child is connecting with? Who do they have on speed dial? What ideas and values are they expressing and receiving through text? In an age of connectedness do you ever feel disconnected?
We invite your child to get connected this summer; not on the internet, or by text, but at Bear Creek Camp. Spend a week or two away from this technology, building connections around a campfire, playing and exploring outside, discussing and problem solving with friends. Campers will connect with God through daily Bible study, themselves while learning and sharing about their likes and dislikes in a caring and supportive environment, creation while living and learning about nature and environmental stewardship, and others through living in a small community of 6-18 people.
Campers will leave camp with the tools needed to build these positive connections in other areas of their lives. Unlike other experiences your child will have this summer, Bear Creek Camp will give your child time to disconnect, allow them to experience adventure and discovery, personally experience God, and leave them feeling more connected than ever.
LOCATION Bear Creek Camp and Conference Center in Bear Creek, PA, the outdoor ministry site of the Northeastern and Southeastern Pennsylvania Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is conveniently located just off of the PA Turnpike and Interstate 81 near Wilkes-Barre. Situated on nearly 3,000 acres of forest, streams, and fields, campers spend their days filled with activities designed to help them grow in their understanding of God, self, creation, and community.
The Staff Bear Creek Camp’s traditional camping model centers on small groups, with whom your child will experience the camp’s program. This group is generally co-ed, being led by staff members who undergo a formal application process and 2 or more weeks of extensive training to ensure that your camper has a great experience! These staff members must have at least 1 year of post high school experience. Additional volunteers of all ages support the camp program. These include visiting chaplains, nurses, and other friends of Bear Creek Camp who share their gifts in a variety of ways.
